Perpetual Verification
A Multi-Hospital Health System experienced a software integrity issue which required validation of a perpetual inventory at a regional warehouse. A method for conducting inventory, with a minimum of prep time, for the purpose of updating the perpetual inventory with a no down time was needed.

Pharmacy Inventory Services

Pharmacy InventoryHISI performs pharmacy inventories utilizing a variety of methods. From conducting a full service Audio Dictation/PDT inventory to supplying manpower to conduct inventory utilizing client equipment HISI meets its pharmacy customers' needs.
Audio Dictation
The HISI Audio Dictation inventory service is designed to provide the client with a completely itemized, priced, and extended report showing all pharmaceutical items.

The physical count is taken using portable dictation devices. This enables us to efficiently and accurately gather the inventory data with minimal prep work and/or disruption to your normal activities. The pharmacy is not required to post any NDC numbers. Our internal quality controls ensure precise inventory results through proper valuation and comprehensive auditing.

The valuation of the drugs inventoried is obtained from the price lists and pricing instructions provided by the hospital or from WAC/AWP pricing obtained via a database continually maintained and updated by HISI.

HISI utilizes Business Objects, an industry leading reports application, to provide final inventory reports on computer printout and/or electronically. Standard final reports are: Certification, Section Totals, Manufacturer Totals, As-Called report (itemized audit trail sorted by section location), Area by Manufacturer by Description, and Area by First Description (alpha generic). HISI also has the ability to provide pharmacy specific reports such as Narcotic Class and Therapeutic Classification.
PDT Inventory
As with the Audio Dictation method HISI's PDT inventory is designed to provide its clients with a completely itemized, priced, and extended report showing all inventory items. The PDT inventory method differs in that it allows for on-site preliminary reports the client may review.

As with an Audio Dictation inventory HISI's PDT inventory requires little to no prep work by the pharmacy personnel. The HISI audit team will make the physical counts and record the quantity of the merchandise inventoried on portable data terminals (PDT) capturing bar-codes and NDC numbers. HISI will enter prices when available. While on-site HISI staff are able to provide preliminary reports such as Section Totals, As-Called Report, Sectional Hi-Lo Reports, Overall Hi-Lo Reports and Narcotic Class Reports. This allows the pharmacy staff to review its inventory to prior to HISI leaving the premises. Once the inventory is complete the information is transferred to our production office for final processing. Final reports and inventory certification will be provided.

Telxon Inventory
Telxon Inventory HISI can provide pharmacies with the manpower needed to conduct inventories utilizing wholesale company Telxon, or similar type, units.

Unlike Audio Dictation or PDT inventories a Telxon inventory requires both prep work and actual inventory involvement by pharmacy personnel. HISI requires that wholesaler's item numbers and/or NDC numbers along with a count package size be posted for items to be counted. The pharmacy must also supply a contact person with the ability to upload the Telxon units and print inventory reports. Reports are a must to review inventory for package size discrepancies.

By using HISI resources, pharmacies can use their internal inventory modules but still maintain the integrity of a third party inventory count.
