Shands at the University of Florida, a member of Shands Healthcare, had recently implemented a bar-code based perpetual inventory system for each storage area, surgical suite, and specialty cart located throughout their inpatient surgical areas.

Instrument Inventory Services

Instruments The HISI Instrument inventory service is designed to provide clients with an itemized and priced inventory detailing all surgical instruments.

The physical count is conducted utilizing count sheets and set pick lists. The sheets are designed so that all pertinent information can be captured for each item inventoried. The basic information includes Manufacturer, Model Number and Description.

HISI will utilize manufacturer's catalogs, as on-site references, to ensure accurate descriptions and/or numbers are recorded.

The on-site inventory process does require some client cooperation to ensure that non-owned instruments are excluded from the count.

Valuation of the inventory, if desired, is completed by using the hospital's pricing files and/or various manufacturer catalogs maintained in our proprietary database.

HISI utilizes Business Objects, an industry leading reports application, to provide final reports on computer printout and/or electronically. Final reports include but are not limited to Section Totals, Manufacturer Totals, As-called Reports, Area by Manufacturer by Description Report, Area by Description and Set Content Reports.
